helping to improve the prognosis of autoimmune diseases with nutrition and exercise

Tammy ThomasWelcome to Proactivity Support!

Approximately thirteen years ago, I couldn’t bathe or dress myself without enduring nauseating pain. A sharp sting in my muscles prevented any mobility and yet my joints ached and throbbed when lying still. My every thought was consumed with getting through the day—and then making it through the night. My body was under attack by a crippling condition called rheumatoid arthritis.

I felt sick, isolated, and disempowered.

Yet I knew that I didn’t want disease to become my new identity—who I was. I didn’t know how, but I was determined to not let my disease control me. I knew that I needed to control it.

I began the hunt for younger doctors who prescribed modern medications, and I experimented with my diet. I don’t know where the motivation came from, but I resolved to continue strength training at a time when I couldn’t lift the weight of my own arm, let alone lift a dumbbell.

My perseverance paid off. What I found through the years was that the right medication, a proper diet, and strength training were all key for me to take control—to regain my power—to be myself again. It was this triad—my holy trinity—that saved my life.

There are countless medical and governmental websites out there that tell us what we should be doing in terms of diet and exercise for autoimmune disease, but we rarely read or hear the reports about what is and isn’t working. I don’t know about you, but I wonder just how many people out there are actually implementing these webdoctors’ recommendations.

Some of you may be asking, “Who exactly are these folks running out to the gym in chronic states of pain to pump iron?” and “How do they find the energy to prepare three square meals every day? Who is trying this stuff, and why? What are the long-term repercussions of these recommendations?”

My name is Tammy Thomas and I’d like to welcome you to my site! Here, you will learn about the importance of diet and exercise for autoimmune disease, what the long-term effects are, and who’s benefiting. Here is where you will find the guidance and resources to help you achieve optimal health and fitness.

Ever since my diagnosis in 1993 with severe rheumatoid arthritis, I have enjoyed strength training and other indoor/outdoor activities on a regular basis, despite my physical limitations. As a result, I am well aware of the physical, mental, and emotional challenges involved with living a healthy and active lifestyle in the face of disease. I know from first-hand experience the importance of proper nutrition and exercise for those with inflammatory, autoimmune conditions. I’ve dedicated my life to it.

Integrating my degrees in science, nutrition, and exercise training with my interests in the body-mind connection and personal life experiences, I offer personalized nutrition and training services essential to strong, healthy, and functional living. My goal is to help others increase their vitality and sense of self by helping them to focus on their health, rather than their disease.
